THE STORY
A garden in motion, caught mid-bloom.
The florals here don't sit in rows or radiate in measured geometry. They scatter across a dark green ground like wildflowers after wind, each bloom finding its own angle: pink peonies with layered petals, yellow tulips bending on cobalt stems, orange and crimson buds clustered where space allowed, lavender irises half-hidden behind turquoise leaves. The white stippling beneath them reads like morning dew or the first frost of autumn.
Surrounding this abundance, a ring of ishkor blue mosaic—small triangular fragments in varying cobalt and sky tones, a technique that traveled the Silk Road from Chinese porcelain workshops to Central Asian kilns centuries ago. The pattern is called "shattered ice" in some regions, "fish scales" in others. Rishtan's ceramicists simply call it tradition.
The olive-green scalloped border grounds the composition. The golden-yellow inner band catches light. One pink peony at the top shows where the glaze ran slightly thicker, giving it more dimension than its neighbors.

For 35 years, Usta Ravshan has devoted his life to a single, perfect thing: the legendary ishkor glaze of Rishtan. In his workshop in Uzbekistan's Fergana Valley, he transforms local clay and natural minerals into the brilliant turquoise that has defined Central Asian ceramics for 800 years. Ravshan learned the craft from his father, who learned from his father—an unbroken chain of knowledge spanning generations. But he isn't just preserving the past; he's ensuring its future. In his workshop, he trains apprentices in techniques that must be learned through years of patient practice, not quick tutorials. What sets Ravshan apart is his range: geometric precision in radiating stars and mathematical tessellations, yet also romantic florals and paradise garden motifs. Each piece balances technical perfection with artistic expression—the mark of a true master.
